
Manchester Road Race Committee President Tris Carta announced recently that $91,200 from the event's proceeds have been donated to a wide range of philanthropic causes.
The Muscular Dystrophy Association, which has been a charitable objective of race sponsors for more than 50 years, received a check for $20,000.
Donations of $15,000 were made to both the Manchester Area Conference of Churches and to Wickham Park, and $10,000 was contributed to the Manchester Police Activities League.
Other organizations aided by the race include Christmas in April ($5,000); the Blue Angels Foundation ($5,000); the Manchester Scholarship Foundation ($5,000); East Coast Greenways ($5,000); the Manchester Recreation Department ($3,500); the Manchester Certified Nurses Association ($1,500); Greater Hartford Legal Aid ($1,000); Odyssey School ($1,000); Manchester Area Network on Aids ($1,000); Lutz Museum ($1,000); the Mansfield/Tolland Special Olympics ($700); CASA ($500); the Rockville Relays ($500) and the Neurofibromatosis Foundation ($500).
"We are extremely grateful to the runners, sponsors, volunteers and spectators who make this race possible each year," Carta said. Thanks to their spirit and generosity, the Manchester Road Race is able to benefit groups that make a real difference in our community."
