Amy Yoder Begley sidelined due to injuries

11/17/2008

Olympian Amy Yoder Begley, the women's champion at the 2007 Manchester Road Race, will not be able to compete in this year's event, race officials announced today.

Yoder Begley, a 16-time All-American runner at the University of Arkansas, won last year's road race in the time of 24:39.  She had entered to run this Thanksgiving, but recently informed  MRR officials that injuries would prevent her from defending her championship.

"We hope that Amy will be able to return in 2009," said Dave Prindiville, who coordinates elite runners for the MRR.

Returning to the MRR this year is Amy Rudolph, a former U.S. Olympian and Providence College All-American.  Rudolph has won the Manchester Road Race five times (1995, 1996, 1997, 2000 and 2002).  She last ran here in 2004, when she placed second in 25:14.  Rudolph ran her fastest time on the 4.748-mile course in 2001 when she finished second in 24:23.

The 72nd Manchester Road Race will be held on Thanksgiving Day (November 27, 2008) at 10 a.m.  The race starts and finishes on Main Street, in front of St. James' Church.  More details are available on the race website (www.manchesterroadrace.com).
